Martin Margiela is a Belgian fashion designer born in 1957 in Belgium and founder of fashion house Maison Margiela. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp in 1979.
He worked for Jean-Paul Gaultier between 1985 and 1987 and started his own label in 1989.
Between 1997 and 2003 he was the creative director of the Hermès women's line.
Renzo Rosso, President of OTB Group, the holding group of Marni, Viktor & Rolf, and Diesel, is the main stakeholder of Margiela.
In 2009 Margiela has left the business of “Maison Margiela”. He has been replaced in October 2014 by John Galliano appointed as creative director.
